Programming

When I was in my first job, an Accounts clerk, I was always thinking why should we use calculator to calculate the balance of accounts. It is very tedious and time consuming.

In an occasion, I made a schoolmate who is good in programming. He told me about the programming stuffs and lend me programming books. From that day onward, I plan to switch my career to be a programmer. So, this is the reason why I'm a programmer. :D

My life and my thinking was affected by programming tremendously. This includes changing my bad habits.. to my values... to my principles. Sometimes, people feel that I'm like a robot rather than human.

Well, what so different about human and machine? Human can be viewed as "analog" or something like "no-absolute". But, for machine, things are digital and precise. It has "absolute" right or wrong. Most important, it does not has emotion. It won't angry because of bad weather or being scolded. As for human, most of them tend to allowed themselves do what they want even though they know what is right or wrong.

A friend of mine told me that why couple divorce after few years or even 15 years of marriage. He told me that its because of the conflict of Chinese zodiac. They believe different combination of the "animal" brings different effect and the effect will not show up immediately.

After heard the story from him, I told him that the zodiac might not be the reason. He asked me why not? I told him that its the problem of responsibility. They divorced because they don't want to take the responsibility of being together. They just want to find a good excuse to escape. They will say nothing is absolute right or wrong. It's just happen to be happened.

In programming, we must find out what is the actual cause and all the possible solutions. So, after discussing the above problem, I came out with this conclusion: divorce has nothing to do with the zodiac. But, it has a direct relationship with the following:

- responsibility - just don't care.
- EQ - high EQ should not loss temper easily and divorce was mainly cause by arguing and fighting.
- principles - what they said is not what they do.

Due to the fact that human has "feeling", sometimes, we might have to take care of it seriously. Once it heard someone's feeling, it will be hard to be recovered.

Try not to say the following:
- I was born with bad temper. You know that!
- I thought you know...

Try to say this:
- I will try my best to improve it. (this sounds better, huh?)
- I will take the responsibility on my decision.
- I will fulfill what I have promised/committed.

Run faster

Two guys are walking in the jungle together. Suddenly, there is a tiger came out from nowhere.

As a result, one guy is changing his shoes to sport shoe.

The other guy laugh at the guy who is changing shoe and said that he won't be able to run faster than the tiger even though he wear sport shoe.

"I can survive as long as I can run faster than you".

The moral of the story tells that you should upgrade yourself so that you can run faster.

There is a story of mountain climbing

There is a story of mountain climbing.

3 friends are going for a mountain climbing trip. After a few hours walking & climbing, a guy says that "it's so tiring. You guys carry on. I'll turn back to the camp and wait for you guys." This guy turn back and walk down to the camp and the other two guys continue their journey.

After a few hours, one guy says "it's so beautiful here. I think we should camp here." Then, this guy starts unpack his stuffs and start putting up the camp. The other guy continues his journey.

After a few hours climbing, the last guy is at the summit of the mountain.

From this story, it tells us something about attitude:

1. The first guy is a guy easily give up on what they've planned. This type of attitude will never achieve what they want.

2. The second guy is a guy who is easily satisfy with what they currently have. This type of attitude will have something but he might not have what they initially planned for.

3. The third guy is a guy who is having the best attitude and they will continue to achieve what they planned.

So, after reading the above story, I think you should be able to tell what kind of attitude you have.

My advice:
1. For the first kind of people, you should review your ability and move forward by one small step each time. Don't try to aim for big step when you are not ready. In a nut shell, you should have the habit of "sharpen your saw" (i.e., enhancing your ability).

2. For the second kind of people, you should have more exposure to anything. For example, meeting new friends and exchanging experience and knowledge with them. You should remember that, standing at any place for a long time is not a good sign. We should move forward to other places and trying out new things.

3. For the third kind of people, you should not be so proud on what you have achieved. Since you have the ability to get up there, you should help those people who needs a hand to get up there. Don't worry that there is not enough space at the top. Because there is another summit of mountain.. waiting for you..

Accumulation

Accumulation is a powerful process which allows us to achieve our goals. For example, Egyptian Pyramid. It took 20 years and more than 100,000 manpower to complete. Another example is accumulating wealth. The best sample is Warrant Buffet who accumulating his wealth for many many years.

Success is a process of accumulating many small successes. It's like climbing mountain. One step forward and you are getting closer to the top of the mountain.

So, be wise. If you have a big business plan, you should divide it into small projects that is easily achieve. It gives your more confident to more forward.

The trend of lightning speed

"Speed" is one of the factor to determine winning and losing.

Everybody is trying very hard to be more smarter... precisely, it should be "faster in doing anything".

Don't know when it start - "the trend of speed". We have the following phenomenon:
- to be a billionaire before age 30..
- to be a doctor before 12..
- to finish read & digest a book within a few hours..
- to be the fastest growing company in the region..
- to be the best & young specialist..
.... and many examples....

Are we blindly chasing for the success of achievement and forget the process?
Do we miss out anything else other than speed?

Yes, we miss out the process. We forget to see the flowers, the trees, our friends, family, our pets....

I guess, we should re-think of "speed". Its not everything. Achievement does not mean that you have to achieve your goal within a very short time. Don't forget that there are lots of things that we can enjoy before we achieve our goals.

Let's slow down our pace just a little bit to enjoy the moment..

Egypt trip.. developing a hardware interface

The trip begin from 21st-July to 1st-Aug.
The weather in Cairo, Egypt is hot and dry and the temperature between 29c and 42c.

Our working environment is located in a workshop with 2 big fans. But the air blow from the fans are hot air.

Our system was completed on 29th just 1 day before the demo. Too rush to polish the user interface. But, it attracts all the attentions from our guests! (see photo below)

On 30th, we demo our integration system that integrates the new and old systems. The guests' response was tremendously good!! The technician who supports the old system asked many questions and they gave us a thumbs up. This pays off the effort that we have dumped in.

The overall response is good and we hope that we can get the project.

Awakening

During my secondary school (before year 1991),
I did not study hard to pass my exam..
I seldom put hard work on my homework..

Until year 1995, I enrolled to "Bachelor of science Major in Economy", I met a lecturer who inspired me. I still remember what he told us in first day of his class. He said,

"degree" course does not mean that you have to study hard and memorize the definition of the model/theory. Instead, we are always asking this type of question: "how big is big when you said its big?".

Sounds a bit confusing for the first time I heard it. But, after a few days of trying to figure out what was he trying to say, I realized that I should not waste my life & my talent. I should do something in my life. Should be something great. So, I left the course and continue with my IT course. I know that my talent is analyzing and I know that I can be better off if I'm in IT field.

In year 2002, I have a crazy idea. Why can our computer system be smarter to assist us to do business? So, I started researching on AI (artificial intelligence). But, after so many years, I'm still trying. :D The good thing is that, I learn many things during the research. And my analysis skill has gone up to a higher level. But, it does not bring me fortune. I'm a bit upset on this situation. Anyway, I realized that I should focus on "business" instead of a "perfect system" that I'm always thinking of.
Success Story ....

A jobless man applied for the position of "office boy" to Mi-cro-soft.

The HR manager interviewed him then watched him cleaning the floor as a
test.

"You are employed" he said. "Give me your e-mail address and I'll send
you the application to fill in, as well as date when you may star! t.

The man replied, "But I don't have a computer, neither an e-mail".

"I'm sorry," said the HR manager. If you don't have an e-mail, that
means you do not exist. And those who don't exist, cannot have the job."

The man left with no hope at all. He didn't know what to do, with only
$10 in his pocket. He then decided to go to the supermarket and buy a
10Kg tomato crate.

He then sold the tomatoes in a door-to-door round. In less than two
hours, he succeeded to double his capital. He repeated the operation
three times, and returned home with $60. The man realized that he can
survive by this way, and started to go everyday earlier, and return
pretty late.

Thus, his money doubled and tripled day by day. Shortly, he bought a
cart, then a truck, then he had his own fleet of delivery vehicles. Five
years later, the man became one of the biggest food retailers in the US.
He started to plan ! his family's future, and decided to have a life
insurance.

He called an insurance broker, and chose a protection plan. When the
conversation was concluded, the broker asked him his e-mail. The man
replied, "I don't have an e-mail. The broker answered curiously, "You
don't have an e-mail, and yet have succeeded to build an empire.

Can you imagine what you could have been if you had an e-mail?"

The man thought for a while and replied, "Yes, I'd be an office boy at
Mi-cro-soft!"

Moral of the story

M1 - Internet is not the solution to your life.

M2 - If you don't have internet, but worked hard, you can be a
millionaire.

M3 - If you received this message by e-mail, you are closer to being an
office boy or girl than a millionaire... Have a great day!!!

The balance between dream and money

Some pursuing their dream in their life and satisfy with what they achieved... but highly unlikely to be rich.
Some pursuing only the money.... but highly unlikely will be satisfy with what they have.

Then, what shall we pursue? Well, it really depends what do you want.

Life is different from the examination in the school or college. There is no answer and there is no absolute right or wrong. And the worst thing is... it does not have the "chapters" that you should read for the examination.

"Life" is like a ship sailing in the sea.
- We are the captain of the ship.
- We have to decide where is our destination (ie, who are you at age 80) .
- In order for us to reach our destination, we must have a compass that can tell us if we are on the right track (ie, the plan).
- And finally, we have to put some hard work to make sure that our ship is sailing (ie, efforts).

So, what is the conclusion? The best option is to have both. This requires more efforts and a good plan that utilise 24 hours x 7 (a week) x 52 (weeks).

Make sure that you don't lost your health when you have the wealth.

Visiting Angkor Wat... the master piece

Angkor wat was built in 12 century. This is a one of the master piece in the world besides pyramid in Egypt, great wall in China, etc.

What I must come here? The reason is simple. I want "touch" the master piece. The feeling that you see from the photo is different from the feeling of seeing the physical master piece.

Note: this photo took by me during my visit. :D
I know it seems like the photo downloaded from the web. hehe.

Angkor Wat

Perfection

Most of the people is looking for perfect stuffs. Unfortunately, most (99.99%) of the things that we encountered/look for are not perfect. I always tell my friend, if they are looking for perfect stuffs, they should goto "heaven". As long as we are still standing on the ground/earth, nothing is perfect. Since we can't adjust the fact, we have to adjust our mindset to accept the imperfection.

So, do I really accept the facts? Sometimes and not most of the time. Things can be perfect. But, how?

My first article in blog

Everybody is trying their best to be outstanding in this world and hope for miracle arise. Does this require "luck" or "miracle" to make it come true?

No.... I don't believe in luck nor miracle. I believe the result is the effort that we have put in. Give and take is the rule but there is no guarantee on what you will be rewarded.
